Mayonnaise and head louse are two terms you often see linked together as a home remedy for head louse. Mayonnaise is a very messy head louse treatment that some people swear by and others swear at. The whole point of this or any other treatment is to kill the lice and the nits (eggs). If even one nit is left alive on the head or the clothing the infected person wore, the treatment must be repeated.

The mayonnaise remedies all vary slightly but the commonality among all of them is take 3-5 tablespoons of mayonnaise and heat it in the microwave for 30-45 seconds then put on the head of the infected person making sure each and every hair is coated from the scalp to the tip. Cover the head with a plastic cap or bag with all air squeezed out so the heat stays in. Keep warm for as long as the person can tolerate but at least two hours. Some say you can wash the mess out immediately with a shampoo conditioner combination and others recommend keeping the plastic covering on over night.

After the head is washed to get the mayonnaise out, you will need to thoroughly comb the hair with a lice comb.

Repeat the treatment in 5 days. Lice have a life span of about 8 days but the eggs hatch in about 5 so waiting a week gives the hatchings a chance to breed.

Make sure you thoroughly spray and clean any bedding, clothes and furniture in the living environment for the infected person.

The active ingredients in mayonnaise that make this treatment work are oil and vinegar. The oil prevents the louse from gripping the hair or scalp so they are easier to remover and the vinegar helps dissolve the glue that holds the nits to the hair.

For a natural and guaranteed way to eradicate head lice, I suggest you rush to head louse treatment right now to learn more.
