Erectile Dysfunction

Impotence which is also referred to as erectile dysfunction or ED is something no man ever wants to experience but many will at least once during their life. I don’t know of a single man that wants to experience impotence or have it last long enough to be classified as erectile dysfunction but millions of men in the world face this problem. Whether he’s sexually active or not, a man that suffers from impotence feels like less of a man.

This sexual dysfunction may be temporary or long term depending on the cause or causes of the problem. A guy that goes out and get drunk may have too much alcohol in his system to get and maintain an erection long enough for sexual intercourse. This is a case of temporary impotence that will go away once he’s sober. Some other causes of impotence are:

  • Hormonal imbalance
  • Tobacco use
  • Fatigue
  • Stress from work or family situations
  • Performance anxiety – You experienced impotence once and fear it may happen again.
  • Stress in a relationship – If you think your partner is cheating on you, you’ve been having relationship problems or the joy has gone out of your sexual relationship; you may be unable to perform.
  • Diabetes
  • Stroke
  • Parkinson’s disease
  • Alzheimer’s
  • Multiple sclerosis
  • Spinal cord injury
  • Surgery in the pelvic region or groin that may have damaged the nerves or blood flow needed for sustained erections and intercourse.
  • Kidney diseases
  • High blood pressure
  • High cholesterol
  • Atherosclerosis
  • Some medications

Sometimes the cure for impotence is a simple matter of sobering up. At other times, you need to isolate the underlying medical condition and treat that problem to regain full functionality and at times there is nothing that can be done to give you back functionality. In the cases of Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s, MS and spinal cord injuries there is often little the medical community can do to help you regain functionality.

At other times, properly treating your diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, kidney disease, stress or other factors may give you back your functionality. The medications you take for some of these conditions may be the cause of your impotence instead of the ailment itself.

If you have no physical nerve damage and your blood flow is normal, there may be all natural solutions that let you enjoy your sexuality where you might not otherwise be able to function. Some of the prescribed solutions for impotence are very expensive and have side effects that might create additional problems. You might want to consider an herbal remedy for erectile dysfunction. There are many impotence causes and the cures aren’t always possible or worth the risk even if they are available to you.
