Treatment for Acne

Acne is a skin disease that affects many people today. People think that acne affects only teenagers but this just isn’t so. Acne plays no favorites and it can strike even adults who may have thought they were way past an acne outbreak. The causes of this skin problem are many but it involves inflammation of hair follicles and oil producing glands that are present in the skin.

Body Acne Treatment

Because acne usually appears on the face, neck, chest, back, and shoulders, it is almost always noticeable and hard to keep concealed. Its appearance at the most inopportune times are one of the reasons teens and young adults dread looking in the mirror. This disease unfortunately is at its worst during adolescence or teen years. Researchers believe that hormones play a large part as to why it is during this time that acne makes its appearance. Some also say that acne can be hereditary so if your mom and dad suffered with acne, chances are you may too. Teenagers who have acne don’t really care about how or why it happened they just want to know how to get rid of it. There are millions of people who would love to get that magic silver bullet that just blasts acne away forever.

Acne Remedy

Mild acne may be treated with over the counter medications as well as with frequent skin washing and good skin care. You don’t want to pick at your acne because this can lead to scarring and skin infections. Even if the zits are annoying, leave them alone and they will go away faster. Some people use compresses and leave these in place on acne-affected areas for 15-30 minutes. They use compresses 3-4 times a day. The compresses can be made from clean cotton pads that have had a little witch hazel applied. You can even use lavender oil on the compress. These natural herbs are often very helpful in diminishing the zits of acne.

If treatment at home is not effective or you have severe acne, you may want to contact a dermatologist. Dermatologist treatments can range from an oral antibiotic or topical cream to hormonal treatments. Some prescribed medications can be very effective but carry serious side effects. Another treatment method can be found with the small handheld electronic devices that are available. These are battery operated and deliver a tiny current to the acne zit that will kill the bacteria and clear up the infection in 24-48 hours. These devices cost about $100 but they do work.

You can also use some easy and simple remedies at home that are good for your skin and will help control the acne. These home remedies for acne will also soothe inflamed skin, and help you distress. Some people like to use steam before they wash their face. The steam will help open the pores and this allows you to give a gentle and thorough washing to your face.

Just cut the hot water on in your bathroom sink and lean your face over so the steam is able to reach it. Trap the steam by covering your head with a thick towel. Do this for about 5-10 minutes and then wash your face as usual. Splash your face with cold water after washing and feel how nice and soft your skin feels. You can do steam treatments about 3-4 times a week.

You can also use green tea as a poultice for your face. Brew a pot of strong green tea. If you are using tea bags Use 3 teabags and 1 cup of water. Allow it to cool down and then wet a clean facecloth with the tea. Let the cloth rest on your face for 15 -20 minutes and then splash cool water on your face for a minute or two. Your face will feel refreshed and the green tea has some anti-inflammatory properties so you should notice less redness to the reddened areas.

Finding the right treatment for eczema and other skin problems can be a problem because there is no single term, cause or remedy for these skin conditions.

Eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis, hives, allergies and scales are just a few of the names given by medical professionals to skin problems. Add to the variety of names and causes of these skin conditions to the inability of the traditional treatments to give long lasting relief or cure these disorders and you have a LOT of frustrated sufferers.

You and everyone you know that has a skin problem brings your own unique problems to the table which might have caused or contributed to your problem. Some of the factors that may affect or contribute to your skin problems are:

  • Your nutritional status.
  • Your emotional status.
  • Your environmental exposures.
  • And more.

Because there can be one or more causes or combinations of causes, the treatment that solves your problem might have no effect on another member of your family or a complete stranger.

There has been at least one clinical study that used nutritional supplements that contained the high quality omega-3 fatty acids such as those found in OmniGuard, Vitamin A, Vitamin B, Vitamin C and Vitamin E so your body has the nutrients it needs to create and use EPA and DHA oils without depleting other vitamins you need.

About 50 percent of the participants in the study showed improvement in their skin condition using just the nutritional supplements mentioned above.

The quantity of each supplement needed depends on your nutritional deficiencies and the severity of your skin condition. IF this solution helps you, it could take anywhere from a few weeks to a year or more to see positive results.

Flaxseed oil used topically is another natural treatment for eczema that is used by some sufferers. If you choose to try this treatment, only apply the flaxseed oil to a small area until you see if you are going to experience an adverse reaction.

Consistency is key with any treatment method you use for your skin condition or any other ailment for that matter. There is no single treatment for eczema and many have side affects so exercise caution and common sense with everything you try.
