Food is both a necessity for life and health but it is also a source of pleasure for many and a food allergy can destroy your quality of life if you let it.
You might love peanuts and even grew up eating peanut butter and jelly sandwiches but found yourself in the emergency room after your body changed and your beloved food turned out to be the cause. Shellfish is another common food allergy we often don’t know we have until an allergic reaction is experienced.
Eliminating the food from your diet that makes you suffer is the most obvious answer to the problem but this isn’t always as easy as it sounds.
The symptoms of food allergies are very similar other type of allergies and may include runny nose, watering eye as well as a skin rash and hives. Other reactions can include a headache due to sinus infections and pain in the ears as well as diminished hearing.
Some people have allergic reactions so severe they must be treated very quickly to prevent death.
Find The Cause of Your Food Allergy Before It Kills You
If you think you might be allergic to something, start keeping a diary of everything you eat and do AND the reactions you have and when. Mild reactions can be noted then you can look at your diary to see what the last few activities and foods you consumed were to help narrow down the cause of the problem.
Work with your medical professional and endure the skin prick test they might recommend, if necessary. This test may be uncomfortable but it sure beats a life of agony from your unknown allergy or allergies.
The problem might turn out to be a different ingredient that was recently added to your favorite food that’s causing your adverse reaction. Read the label on almost anything you eat and you’ll find a list of multiple ingredients and any one or any combination of these might be the trigger that sets you off.
Children and some elderly people have trouble remembering they have a problem with certain foods so it is often wise to make sure they have a medical alert bracelet that lets people know they have a food allergy that can put their health or lives at risk.
Everyone that has a loved one with any type of allergy should check out Yeast Free Cooking but this is an awesome resource for people with a food allergy.
