Healthy Eating Tips While On a Budget

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

Eating healthy doesn’t have to be budget busting as these healthy eating tips show. Everyone is feeling the pinch from the consistently climbing food prices.

  1. Eliminate Junk food – Create a list and stick to it. Do NOT go grocery shopping with your kids or spouse or you WILL stray to please them. Junk foods provide marginal nutrition for you and the price per unit is often budget busting.
  2. Drink Water or Juice instead of soft drinks – You can still enjoy milk and your favorite soft drinks on special occasions BUT limit your intake because milk is a very expensive source of vitamins C and D AND soft drinks offer no useful nutrition. We all need Calcium and the Natural Calcium Sources page shows that milk isn’t always the best source of calcium for us.
  3. Fruits and Vegetables – If possible, grow your own and then either can or freeze what you don’t eat. Growing your own food may not be an option but there are often local growers that let you pick your own for a substantial savings. If this isn’t an option either, buying from local growers or buying in bulk are the next level of savings.
  4. Tuna Fish – Tuna is a relatively inexpensive source of protein AND it has the omega fatty acids that help feed the brain. The calories in tuna dishes don’t climb until you start adding mayonnaise and all of the other ingredients that are commonly used to make dishes with tuna.
  5. Fresh Fish - In season and where you can, fresh fish that you catch is a great supplement to your nutritious diet. Extra fish can be frozen for another day.
  6. Beans - Beans are another great protein source and they are very versatile. You can add beans to other ingredients to make very tasty and healthy meals that are inexpensive, healthy and good. Note: The USDA recommends eating beans at least 4 times per week. If you experience gas after eating beans you should try washing them, covering them with water, bringing the water to a boil, then draining it off and refilling the pot.
  7. Whole Grain Rice - White rice has been processed and bleached so most of the nutritional value is lost but whole grain rice still has the nutrients and fiber you need.
  8. Peanut Butter – This isn’t as inexpensive as it used to be but it is still nutritious and popular among many of us. A large jar of peanut butter that is refrigerated may last for weeks.
  9. Potatoes - This low calorie carbohydrate is good for you and it will help fill you up. Potatoes are often thought of as fattening but they aren’t. They become so when liberal amounts of butter, sour cream, bacon bits and other toppings are piled on the potato.
  10. Sweet Potatoes – This is a favorite for the holidays that is usually neglected the rest of the year. Like the white potato, the sweet potato is healthy and it tastes good.

Healthy eating is a lifestyle choice and someone on a budget will still find a way to live their chosen lifestyle without feeling deprived. I hope these healthy eating tips have gotten your creative juices flowing.

Oily Skin Care Facts

You can’t begin to talk about oily skin until you understand what causes it in the first place. Your body produces a naturally oily substance called sebum.

Oily skin is the result of the body making too much sebum. As with everything in life, an excessive amount of anything is bad. Too much sebum often leads to pores that become clogged with dead skin cells or dirt and this creates the perfect breeding ground for acne. Many women and some men look at oily skin as a hindrance to having beautiful skin.

When the largest organ in the body is oily, you need to take special care in cleansing it. If you haven’t already found this out, not all cleansing products will work for you in removing this excess oil.

You need a cleanser which contains salicylic acid such as beta-hydroxy acid that retards the rate of sebum production. Cleansing should be done at least twice a day and even more in hot and humid conditions.

ALWAYS read the ingredient list because a product that contains oil will NOT help you remove the excess oil you have. Most products are oil free but please be an informed consumer.

Make sure you get the product suitable for your skin type. If you are only slightly oily, some all purpose products might work well for you but if your body produces buckets of the stuff you will need products that state they are for oily skin.

For extremely oily skin, your routine can include an alcohol based toner for an extremely oily skin but excessive toning may harm your skin. Use toning as a second step in your cleansing routing when necessary but limit its use as much as possible.

The oiliness of your skin will determine whether you can or should include a moisturizer as part of your regimen. If you do decide to include a moisturizer, be sure to use one that is oil-free, wax-free and lipid-free.

You might consider using a clay mask once a week as part of your skin care regimen.

Finding the right skin care products for oily skin is not an easy task because of the different degrees of excess oil at different times. You might find that you’ll need to try several products before finding the one that works best AND it may fail you at different times of the year.

In some cases, you may need to consult a good dermatologist for advice on how to handle your oily skin.

Green Tea Pills for Weight Loss

Dietitians say that weight loss is achieved in two ways: reduce the intake of calories and increase energy expenditure. Green tea can perform both these functions quite well.

These pills contain a small amount of caffeine in them which makes them the perfect candidate for an appetite-suppressant. In addition to suppressing the appetite, you’ll be benefiting from diuretic properties that help reduce excess water in the body. Extra water contributes to extra weight and by ridding the body of these you’ll be contributing to your weight loss.

How To Get Rid Of Bad Breath

Most bad breath sufferers are aware of their problem and will do almost anything to eliminate the problem but seldom know how to get rid of bad breath.

Common Causes of Bad Breath

Food that is stuck between your teeth, your diet and poor oral hygiene are the most common causes of bad breath. People that eat diets high in fresh fruits and vegetables are less likely to suffer from halitosis than people that eat high protein diets or diets that include a lot of strong spices or foods. Garlic and onions are notorious for their contribution to halitosis.

You Can Learn How to Get Rid of Bad Breath

The average person can learn good oral hygiene and how to get rid of their bad breath if they are willing to adjust their lifestyle and habits some. This video gives you a very simple step-by-step process that will let you have fresher breath unless the cause is from a medical condition.

The process outlined in the video is geared at helping you eliminate decaying food particles and bacteria that create your bad breath.

Brushing after EVERY meal, flossing and adopting the right diet are all important in your fight to be halitosis free.

As the video showed, it’s important to brush your tongue too. This simple procedure at the end of brushing helps remove loosened food particles and the bacteria that was waiting to feed on them.

Frequently brushing your teeth, flossing and rinsing your mouth out with water or mouth wash helps you remove the non medical causes of bad breath. You are also helping your gums and teeth stay healthier for a longer period of time by practicing good oral hygiene.

Smokers that want better breath need to quit smoking. Not only are you inserting toxins into your body that may cause medical problems but they adversely affect your mouth odor, body odor, the smell of your clothes and just about everything you are in close contact with for any length of time. You can use breath mints and other techniques to mask the odor of smoking on your breath but you must consider a complete smoking cessation program if you seek a permanent solution to your bad breath.

How to get rid of bad breath isn’t a difficult question to answer but you might be one of the people that is unwilling to do everything that you need to do so your lifestyle promotes pleasant odors from your mouth instead of foul or toxic breath.

Self Help Fails Many

Self help and self improvement programs are tried by many people and unfortunately too many people fail AND it is usually NOT their fault.

Your brain is an amazingly complex organic computer that has its initial programming done by your DNA. Who you’ve become has been mostly determined by all of the programming that has been added since birth.

Everything you’ve been exposed to has been recorded by your brain even if you cannot recall it. All of your senses record all of the time AND the more you are exposed to any sight, sound, smell or touch the more that is imprinted on your mind.

You first learned to speak by first listening to everyone around you talking and you then tried to mimic them. The more you practiced talking the better you got at it.

When you got to grade school and first started to learn how to write, you probably had to practice writing each letter starting with them as very big letters. As you got better at writing, you were able to make them smaller, faster, smoother and more consistently.

I’m willing to bet that you eventually reached a point where you could pick up a pen or pencil and write what you wanted without consciously thinking about the act of writing.

This level of competence means your subconscious mind thinks about the mechanics of writing while your conscious mind deals with the content you are writing.

You can reach this level of competence in almost anything with enough practice on the fundamentals.

Your mind CANNOT distinguish between good, bad, real or imagined.

Because your mind doesn’t have the ability to make these distinctions, you can trick it into believing something you imagine often enough should be your reality and it will help you make it happen.

We all have habits in our lives that we want to break and it IS possible but only if done the right way.

You probably acquired the habit through repetition and you will need repetition to get rid of the habit.

Many self help programs give you positive affirmations that are SUPPOSED to help you build new habits BUT they do NOT include affirmations where you repeatedly give your mind permission to release the bad habit.

I firmly believe you must do both AND engage multiple senses so the desired habit becomes your new reality faster. As you read your affirmations, write your affirmations and listen to them regularly, they will become imprinted on your subconscious mind quicker.

On average, something you do consistently each day starts to become a habit in 28-30 days. When you are trying to release a bad habit and instill a new one with the aide of a self help program, the process may take much longer because the old habit may have been part of your life for years.

Even with the right mindset, actions and self help program, you MUST be consistent and persistent in your attempt to improve yourself.

I’ve used several self help programs with no success and I’m sure you have too BUT I’ve found the programs at Think Right Now do work. Good luck in your quest for a better you and I sincerely hope you find the self help program that fits your needs.
